Two schools of there can be broadly divided into archery. I will describe the two schools.
Archery of Japan can be classified into "Hosya" developed from how to mainly draw the bow by on foot in a battlefield, "Kisya" developed from how to draw the bow shot from a horse, and "Dosya" developed from how to draw the bow of the passing arrow in Sanjusangen-do. In the contemporary classification, the view divided into the type of martial art and the type of courtesy became in use.How to draw a bow, as for what the difference in a school appears in easily -- Syomenutiokoshi, Syamenutiokoshi, and a type -- the type of a battle, or courtesy -- a type . Syomenutiokoshi puts a bow on the bodily front straight as it is, after setting an arrow. Syamenutiokoshi moves the cantle which set the arrow to bodily left-hand side, and puts a bow on the diagonal left.
Syamenutiokoshi
Syomenutiokoshi
University of Tsukuba is set to Syamenutiokoshi of the type of a battle while of these two types. This is called Heki style. The founder of this school is the person "Heki Dansei Masatsugu" who existed in the end of the Muromachi period. The Heki style was the practical archery for foot soldiers with emphasis on the penetration power of hit or an arrow. A battlefield is left at the Edo period, it is completed as a samurai's front art, and the archery in which the samurai has polished up the battle in a battlefield as a starting point is inherited as a Heki style till today.
The school mainly used now is an Ogasawara style of Syomenutiokoshi. An Ogasawara style is a school of archery, horsemanship, and courtesy. Moreover, there are some which also give their name to military tactics and the tea ceremony as an Ogasawara style. Although it is a school notable as a school of etiquette, it is the school which samurai, such as archery, horsemanship, and a custom, were mainly using essentially. Having become a prototype came to be respected from Mr. Ogasawara's having become the existence as a leader in samurai society after the Muromachi period middle.
However, in the present kyudo, it is pulling along with the method of the unific motion defined with the book of the instruction of kyudo, and how to pull. Therefore, even if the influence of a specific school has won popularity, there are many directions which do not necessarily belong to the school. that is, -- it is acquisition about the method of influence irrespective of a school that kyudo is right as the book of an instruction in order to make progress kyudo -- things are important.
